'We awoke in our swags to the sound of birds chirping and people already going through lines. Walking about to take in the beauty of these incredible handmade sculptures is always such a trip. More crew kept appearing throughout the day and it felt like the jam was already in full force, but it was still only Friday. By evening, the snakewoods bushdoof vibes were in effect, with more than a few cans of aerosol being thrown in the bonfire.
All this mayhem was still only a warm up for Saturday, which in reality, was easily one of the best days of riding bikes I've ever got to experience. There was not a dull moment all day, with constant trains running, non-stop good vibes and the spectacle of watching everybody getting sideways. Tim Weexy was being an animal, Pollard, Mulesy and the Milners were boosting. Dylan Lewis and Jon Mackellar destroyed the joint, getting way too high, all while getting twisted.
The madness of Saturday was taken to a new level in the evening, as live music begun on a makeshift stage in the woods. An instrumental punk/metal group were joined onstage for an impromptu vocal performance by THE Jon Mackellar, who grabbed the mic and started growling and screaming, in a way that actually sounded epic and whipped the boys into a frenzy. By the final act, the vibes were getting very loose, but the multi-dimensional beacon of awesome that is Chris Falk and his band Psychosphere, broke through the chaos and captured everyone's hearts, minds and ears with a brutally amazing set.
Come Sunday, a portion of the revelers had called it quits and headed for the beach, but still a large posse remained, riding all day, juicing every last drop of stoke available. It's beyond a shame that such an incredible, rideable artwork and the community based around this place will be torn up for a property developer's profits. However, from the destruction of this masterpiece, new seeds of beauty will emerge. To Dale, Falk, Joc, Jacko, Claire, Jordan, Lester and all the other locals that make this place so epic, thank you. You guys have made something very special happen and the Australian BMX community is so much richer because of this'. (DC)
